Celebratory season at theatre royal

The Theatre Royal, Notting-ham, will be celebrating its 150th anniversary with special events, as well as a variety of music, drama, dance and comedy — at both the theatre and the Royal Concert Hall.

A funny, feisty new play, Hood – The Legend Continues, will premiere at the Theatre Royal in September.

With its roots firmly set in Nottinghamshire, the play has been commissioned exclusively to celebrate the anniversary.

Other anniversary events include a promenade production of Sheridan’s satirical comedy The School For Scandal, plus Victorian-themed open days, talks, exhibitions and memory afternoons.

Hood – The Legend Continues will star Adam Morris, best known for playing Robin Hood in the children’s TV series.
The play has its roots firmly set in Nottinghamshire as four of the cast will be making a return to their home ground of the East Midlands.

Following the Theatre Royal’s birthday celebrations in September, drama audiences will be treated to a bumper crop of new and critically-acclaimed productions this autumn, including Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads starring Stephanie Cole, King Charles III starring Robert Powell and a new production of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.

The new comedy musical Mach And Mabel will star Michael Ball and Alexandra Burke will head the cast in award-winning musical The Bodyguard.

Comedians Alan Carr, Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse, as well as Ken Dodd and Michael Palin, will be at the Royal Concert Hall.
