Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 Mansfield Town

Posted onPosted on 13th Sep

Angry Stags boss Paul Cox was sent to the stands in the last minute of injury time as the visitors were made to pay for failing to capitalise on their first half dominance and chances.

Matt Rhead grabbed a fourth minute breakthrough from a corner and might have had another. Transfer deadline day signing Rakish Bingham could have had a hat-trick.

But despite out-scoring Wycombe 16-2 in corners, Mansfield could not outscore the hosts where it mattered.

A controversial penalty when Martin Riley, close to a Paul Hayes shot, was ruled to have deliberately handled turned the game on the half hour. Hayes netted the spot kick.

The Stags still created plenty of chances to win away from home for a second successive Saturday before Peter Murphy headed in a later winner for the hosts.
