Charity golf day a triumph for family

Posted onPosted on 18th Aug

An annual charity golf day turned into a memorable family occasion as well as a successful fundraiser.

Mansfield-based wealth manager Collins Wealth Management hosted its annual charity golf day at Coxmoor Golf Club, raising more than £5,000 for the St James’s Place Charitable Foundation.

It was a particular success for the three generations of the Bennett family, who won the team competition as the Red Badgers while 13-year-old Brooke Bennett, a junior member of both Coxmoor and Hollinwell golf clubs, also took the individual trophy.

Golfers from all over the UK attended the tournament, which is now in its 11th year, and on the day Coxmoor members featured strongly.

Coxmoor junior member Brooke was thrilled to receive the prestigious individual trophy, playing with her father, Jamie Bennett, and granddad Nigel Bennett.

She scored 46 points individually, with Brian Armstrong, Simon Perkins, Paul Collins and Gary Sludds all in hot pursuit.

The Bumble Bees team of Gary, Coxmoor captain Peter March and Paul Orton were a close second and Andrew Tyler, Tony Lindsley and Trevor Ryan, playing as TrevandTony, were third.

Coxmoor’s Trevor capped a successful day for the club with an outstanding one under par to take the Scratch Trophy. Paul Orton and Jamie Bennett were second and third respectively.

Having raised more than £50,000 for the SJP Foundation over the previous 10 years, Collins Wealth Management said it was delighted to add another £5,000 raised on the day this year.

A spokesman thanked all golfers who travelled to Coxmoor for the event and the generous event sponsors, many of whom have been long-term sponsors of the significant charity golf day.
