Armchair Club golfers putt in £3,000 for sporting fund!

‘Taxi Anyone’, captained by ACE ABC managing director Roger Krishan, are this year’s Armchair Club Golf Champions.

On 28th June, a beautiful sunny day with the Coxmoor Golf Club course looking in fabulous condition, Roger led his team of Jimmy Lloyd, Watson Gardener and Phil Worsley to win the tournament ahead of the 30 teams that took part.

It was the Armchair Club’s sixth annual Charity Golf Day at Coxmoor, Sutton. A total of 120 golfers took part, in teams of four.

Many teams were sponsored by local companies and organisations with the main event sponsor being Linneys, Mansfield’s long-time Armchair Club supporter.

The star prize of the day for golfers who landed a hole in one at the par 3 second hole was a Honda Jazz car, courtesy of Mansfield Vertu Honda.

Sadly, no-one managed to hit a shot good enough on the day to drive it home.

Various fundraising was carried out during the day and the golfers who took part generously helped the Armchair Club to raise £3,000 on the day, to donate to able-bodied and disabled sportspeople and sporting clubs in Mansfield and Ashfield.

At the evening presentation, Golf Day organiser Bill Taylor praised everyone who had supported the day, saying: “Our Charity Golf Day goes from strength to strength because we are supported by a very special group of people.

“Their tremendous generosity over many years has enabled the Armchair Club to make such a positive difference to so many young local sportspeople and clubs.”

The Armchair Club was created more than 35 years ago, by a small group of Mansfield businessmen to raise much needed funds to give back to able-bodied and disabled local sportspeople in need of additional financial support.

It is ‘one of a kind’, having raised and donated to local sportspeople more than £210,000 over the years.

Its success has been achieved through the generosity and support of local people attending fundraising events, with the objective of helping the club raise funds to be invested back into the local community to give talented young people an opportunity to grow and develop their own sporting abilities.

Grants are available to young sports people and clubs who are based in the Mansfield and Ashfield area and the club’s contact details can be found on the Armchair Club website www.armchairclub.org
