New ensemble venture planned by Dukeries Singers

Posted onPosted on 11th Jan

Dukeries Singers choir has thanked Tesco and Newark and Sherwood District Council for grants that helped it to buy a PA system.

It was used at an event for the first time during a Christmas concert at Jubilee Hall, Ollerton (pictured above).

The choir also thanked Ashley Carlisle, who dealt with the electrics needed to get the best out of the PA system for a concert performance — and performed an impromptu guitar, vocal folk solo.

Chairman John Banbury is aiming to broaden musical activities offered by the choir, and a list of songs suitable for weddings and similar celebration functions is being compiled.

“If this proves popular, then wedding performances will be a new activity for our choir to undertake,” he said.

Also under consideration is the creation of a free Dukeries Singers pop voices ensemble, which would allow members to meet and sing popular songs without needing to read sheet music.

Anyone thinking of joining the choir can go to a couple of its regular practice sessions for free to discover if it appeals to them.

Dukeries Singers choir meets on Wednesdays at the Methodist Hall, Ollerton, at 7pm.
