Items wanted for time capsule

The Friends of Yeoman Hill at Mansfield Woodhouse continued its centenary celebrations of the park by naming the winner of its anniversary photograph competition and appealing for items for a time capsule that is to be buried.

Residents were asked over the past year to submit photos, representing life in the park, which was given to Mansfield Woodhouse 100 years ago by the 6th Duke of Portland.

The competition, supported by Mansfield District Council through its grant aid programme for community groups, was won by Carol Royce for a photo of her granddaughter, Anabelle Royce, taken among daffodils last spring.

Anabelle and her mum, Louisa, are pictured receiving their prize from Corinna Brown, of the friends group. Both photographs will be placed in the time capsule that is being buried in the Park.

It will be the culmination of a year of hard work by the friends group and contain other photos, reports and press coverage of centenary celebration events over the past year.

The capsule, sponsored by Mansfield Building Society, will also include a necker from 4th Mansfield Woodhouse Scouts, a photograph of members of the drum and bugle group, Millennium Green items and a set of 2014 coins.

To have an item added to the time capsule, which it is hoped will be opened in 100 years time, contact Linda at Park Road Resource Centre, call 01623 429334, or email the Friends of Yeoman Hill at [email protected]
