Blidworth Welfare Band came seventh overall in the first section at the National Brass Band Championships and was the highest placed Midlands band.

Musical director Martin Heartfield said: ““I was delighted by the confidence and commitment of the band. Each time they perform on a contest stage they have grown in stature.”

The band will play in the championship section (the highest section) from next year.
