Abbey Primary children show off their new ukuleles after the Mansfield school set up a new after school club.

The instruments were purchased after the school secured a grant from EMI Music Sound Foundation.

The Foundation is dedicated to the improvement of music education with a focus on youth and supports schools to fund non-statutory music education.

Music teacher Alan Kirkland said “The ukuleles provide us with an opportunity to show children that learning an instrument can be fun and affordable. Ukuleles are very popular at the moment as they allow children to learn fairly quickly and create a good sound. We hope to set up opportunities for the children to perform in the near future.”
