The John Eastwood Hospice received a £3,463 donation thanks to a national recycling scheme supported by the Mansfield and District Joint Crematorium Committee.

After each cremation, metals from a coffin, along with orthopaedic implants are recycled under a scheme endorsed by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management, if families agree.
A cheque was presented by Councillor Julian Hamilton, chairman of the committee.

He said: “I’d like to think that those who have had loved ones cremated will be comforted in the knowledge that their loss is helping fund a charity dedicated to making life easier for those with advanced cancer and other conditions requiring specialist palliative care.”
