Healthy message for Abbey youngsters

Abbey Primary School ran a Healthy Week with different activities for all its children.

The Healthy Week at the Mansfield school included the Life Education Bus, where children learnt all about the body and how to keep it healthy.

The bus was part-funded by JN Derbyshire Trust, which contributed £200. The rest was paid for by the Friends of Abbey — the school’s fundraising parents’ group.

Year six children visited Samworth Church Academy to make healthy fruit salads of apples, pears, pineapples, kiwi fruit and oranges.

Two visits were made through the week — to Frankie and Benny’s Mansfield restaurant and the Jubilee Way Tesco store in the town.

Year two pupils (pictured) learned how Tesco brought food from the farm to the fork, tasted fruits and cheeses and visited the freezers.

Year five students visited Frankie and Benny’s and were shown around the different restaurant areas and the variety of jobs done in the restaurant. They tasted fruit drinks and made their own healthy pizza, using fresh ingredients.
