Green Flag joy for parks

Five parks in Mansfield District have been named among the best in the UK.

King George V Park in Mansfield has won a prestigious Green Flag Award for the first time. Carr Bank Park and Titchfield Park in Mansfield, as well as Peafield Park and Yeoman Hill Park in Mansfield Woodhouse have also won awards.

Situated between the Berry Hill and Bellamy Estates, King George V Park comprises of sports pitches, mini golf, woodland, heath areas and a wildflower meadow. There is also a children’s play area and an outdoor eco classroom.

The five Green Flag parks are among a record-breaking 1,476 parks and green spaces to receive an award from the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

These awards recognise and reward the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

Coun Philip Shields, portfolio holder for the environment at Mansfield District Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted that King George V Park has received a Green Flag Award for the first time.

“This is down to the huge efforts of our Parks staff, who have worked so hard to bring this about. We have also worked very closely with the staff and pupils of Berry Hill and St Peters schools.

“Mansfield can be very proud of the fact that we now have five top rated parks.”
