Children at Asquith Primary School, Mansfield, donned traditional graduate caps and gowns to graduate from Children’s University.

Twenty children were joined by their families and school staff to collect their Children’s University award, which celebrates out-of-school learning.

The ceremony was held in St John’s Centre, Mansfield with balloons and celebratory cake made by a staff member in school.

Andy Whittaker, from Art of Brilliance, gave a speech and presented the children with their certificates, along with the head. Children were awarded either a bronze or silver certificate, diploma, degree or post graduate diploma award.

These represented the number of hours the young people have spent taking part in out of school learning.

Some of the children were also presented with gold awards at a ceremony held at Nottingham Trent University the following night.

Head Clare Harding said: “We are very proud of the children’s achievements. They have all shown an extraordinary commitment to attending after school activities, both in school and at other venues.

“We hope this ceremony will inspire them and other children to attend clubs of all types and keep learning.”

Nottingham Trent University supports the delivery of the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Children’s University with some schools in the area.

Children’s University is a way of giving credit to learning out of school time before and after school and at lunchtimes, at weekends and in holiday periods. It aims to raise aspirations, boost achievement and encourage a love of learning. It enables young people to make the most of their abilities and interests, regardless of their background.
