Free running zone to open in Forest Town

A free running area will be installed in Queensway Park, Forest Town, on Monday, 7th April at 11am.

The new £50,000 Parkour Training Zone is the first of its kind in the Mansfield district and has been funded through Nottinghamshire County Council’s Local Improvement Scheme.

Free running is the sport of running along an urban area route of balance beams and walls while performing different gymnastic manoeuvres over or on man-made obstacles and buildings by jumping, running or climbing.

Local county councillor Colleen Harwood said: “What a fantastic facility for the young people of Mansfield to get out and about and have a go at. It looks such an energetic sport and I’m sure the facility will be well used in the future.”

Under 8s attending the opening will receive free coaching sessions from 11am–3pm.

The project was managed by Mansfield District Council and Jupiter Play installed the equipment.

Coun Philip Shields, portfolio holder for the Environment, added: “This is a really exciting, new recreational facility for Mansfield, which will generate a lot of local interest. Anyone, who welcomes a physical challenge and wants to try something different should come along and experience this impressive training zone.”

Greenwood Forest has planted four trees close to the equipment to offer shade in the summer and additional seating has been funded by the Forest Town Community Group.

Refreshments will be available at the opening provided by Forest Town Youth Club and Forest Town Community Council and a bouncy castle will be on site, depending on weather conditions.
