Four Seasons eye overseas help

MORE than 250 pairs of prescription glasses have been donated by visitors to Mansfield’s Four Shopping Centre to developing countries via international charity Vision Aid Overseas.

A collection tub was placed in the centre for three weeks, with staff from Vision Express opticians keeping an eye out for all the spectacles that could be used by people who currently have little or no access to eyecare.

A total of 259 pairs will be sent overseas and matched to people who need them.

“It’s great to think that these unwanted glasses – often gathering dust in a kitchen draw –– will actually help over 250 people in developing countries. We are delighted that we could help facilitate this,” said Rebekah O’Neill, centre manager.

Throughout the collection period, Vision Express in the Four Seasons provided vouchers to people donating their old prescription glasses, offering £20 off a brand new pair.

This will continue throughout April, as will the collection of old glasses that will be sent to Vision Aid Overseas.
