Nottinghamshire County Council has joined join local authorities, community groups and public buildings in the UK and throughout the world by flying the Commonwealth flag for Commonwealth Day (Mon March 9).
Councillor Pauline Allan, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council was joined by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Commander Peter Moore, for the ceremony at County Hall, West Bridgford to mark the second international Fly a Flag for Commonwealth Day.
The flag is one of more than 650 which were raised simultaneously in 38 Commonwealth countries.
The County Hall event included the reading of special messages from HM The Queen and Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Kamalesh Sharma, plus the Commonwealth anthem.
For the first time in Maritime history, the 11 Ships of P&O and Cunard are also flying the Commonwealth flag at various locations around the globe.
