The Commonwealth flag is flying above County Hall for the first time today as part of national celebrations for Commonwealth Day.
Nottinghamshire County Council joined around 500 organisations across the country by hosting a simultaneous flag raising ceremony at 10am this morning.
Sir John Peace, Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, read a personal message from The Queen, before Coun John Allin, chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, raised the flag.
The event was the largest single, simultaneous raising of the Commonwealth flag there has ever been.
Flags are also being flown by Nottingham City Council and by all seven district and borough councils in the county.
