Debt advice at Kirkby Work Club

Posted onPosted on 2nd Mar

Jobseekers in Ashfield are to be given advice on managing their finances at a special workshop this Friday (6 March 2015), hosted by Nottinghamshire County Council’s Kirkby Work Club.

The event is being held at Kirkby Library, Ashfield Precinct (opposite Morrisons) from 10am to 12 noon, in association with Ashfield Citizens Advice Bureau.

Support will be on hand about:

•Prioritising your bills
•The effects of defaulting on different debts
•How to identify priority and non-priority debts
•Where to go if you need extra help

Councillor Diana Meale, Chair of Economic Development Committee at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “Debt is an increasing problem in many of or communities. Dealing with bills, whether they be regular outgoings or an unforseen expense, is tough for everyone, but even more so if you are out of work. And money worries can have a direct, negative impact on someone’s ability to find employment, making it all the more difficult to get out of a spiral of unemployment and debt.

“This session on bills and debts will explore the options available to people when managing their finances in tough times, such as which bills to prioritise and where they can get extra help.”

Nottinghamshire County Council runs nine work clubs across the county, all based in libraries.

As well as regular sessions, the work clubs host special events on a particular topic from time-to-time – from interview skills and employer visits to job searching and volunteering.
