Cycle training scheme’s 10th anniversary

Posted onPosted on 3rd Oct

A SCHEME that provides on-road cycle training in schools is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Nottinghamshire County Council’s road safety team’s Tracy Graham said: The difference between the old Cycling Proficiency scheme, which many parents may remember, and Bikeability is that the old test didn’t involve actual on-road training.”

Aimed at pupils in years 5 and 6, Bikeability comprises two levels of training, beginning in the school playground and then graduating on to quiet roads.

Level one training is being introduced for years 3 and 4 children for the first time and is available for Cubs and Brownies.

The council provides Bikeability to all schools in Mansfield and Ashfield. It is taking bookings for this academic year, call 01623 520034, or 0115 9774373.
