Countdown to festival

The Sheriff of Nottingham has promised to ‘see Robin in Sherwood’ ahead of the 30th annual Robin Hood Festival which takes place from August 4-10.

Robin, aka Steve Warrington, Maid Marian (Jessica Cresswell) and the Merry Men were recording a video for Nottinghamshire County Council’s Facebook fans promoting the festival recently – when they were rudely interrupted by the Sheriff!

The Sheriff (Mark Williams) vowed to make an appearance at the festival at Sherwood Forest in the video, which can now be seen on the county council’s Facebook page for the Robin Hood Festival, visit: www.facebook.com/robinhoodfestival

Over the coming weeks, many more much loved medieval characters at the annual Robin Hood Festival will be profiled on Facebook as it counts down towards the 30th Robin Hood Festival.

Last year, more than 2,000 people ‘liked’ Nottinghamshire County Council’s Facebook campaign for the festival and there are hopes to increase that number this year.

This year’s campaign will feature more fun characters from the festival with facts and figures about their characters and the people who play the roles, lots of fun pictures and the chance to interact with festival organisers.

Nottinghamshire County Council’s Culture Committee Chairman Councillor John Knight said: “We are looking forward to this special anniversary of the Robin Hood Festival as it celebrates 30 years.

“Facebook Festival Folk was successful last year in providing a platform on social media for people to discuss the festival and we had interest from Robin Hood fans in America and other countries as well as across the UK. There will be daily profiles and updates about the festival on the website in the run-up to the festival and during the week itself.”

The campaign will tomorrow focus on Robert of Wentbridge, a medieval story teller, who is played by Ralph Needham from Nottingham.
