Posted onPosted on 23rd Mar

The official countdown to local elections in Mansfield district started today (23 March) with the publication of the Notices of Election.

The Parliamentary, Mayoral, Mansfield District and Warsop Parish Council elections all take place on Thursday 7 May.

Candidates who want to stand for election as Mayor, district or parish councillor now have until 4pm on 9 April to submit nomination papers. A list of all candidates standing in the local elections will be published on the council’s website www.mansfield.gov.uk by 4pm on 10 April.

Prospective Parliamentary election candidates can submit nomination papers from 2 April until 4pm on 9 April. A list of Parliamentary candidates will be published on the website by 5pm on 9 April.

Residents who want to vote in May but who are not yet registered must do so by 20 April. It only takes a few minutes to register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or contact Electoral Services on 01623 463345 for a paper application form. You will need your National Insurance number, if you have one.

Ruth Marlow, Managing Director and Returning Officer at Mansfield District Council, said: “These elections give local residents the opportunity to decide who they want to represent them at both a local and national level, support their community and make decisions which have an impact on their lives.

“Registering to vote is much quicker and easier than you might realise. I would encourage as many people as possible to register now so they can have their say on 7 May.”
