Boost for Ashfield CAB

Ashfield Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) is to open for an extra two days per week after securing £300,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.

The grant will also fund a mobile information service across Ashfield. The new facilities will start in July.

The charity, on Market Street in Sutton, already offers drop-in sessions on Monday to Wednesday, from 9.30am-12.30pm, a telephone service, and specialist debt and benefit appointments.

Kathryn Stacey, chief executive, said: “We are thrilled by the award from Big Lottery, which will have a massive impact on the local community. We will be able to help many more people through this project, which was developed in response to a survey we conducted last year.

“People said that they wanted to be able to access support in their own community, for us to extend our opening hours and also to offer more one-to-one appointments.

“We will be taking the service into the community with a purpose-built, mobile information unit. The vehicle will have internet access and telephones so that clients can complete online forms and make related telephone calls.

“The vehicle will be supported by two information officers and will have a waiting area with an iPad information station, so that people can browse the internet for local support services.”
