Woodland adventure zone plans win award already

Posted onPosted on 20th Mar

Innovative plans for a fully-accessible Woodlands Adventure Zone have won an award — even before the exciting project has opened.

The facility, which is taking shape at Portland College, was praised at an awards ceremony at Nottingham Trent University.

Portland College won the Active Place Award for innovative plans at the ceremony organised by Active Notts, which staged the first ever Notts Getting Active Together Awards.

The Woodlands Adventure Zone includes a climbing tower, zip-wire and activity trail. It is expected to open to the public in the summer.

As part of the college’s commitment to the community, it will provide free programmes to local primary schools and groups supporting disadvantaged people to ensure the facility is accessible to all.

The Woodland Adventure Zone has relied fully on fundraising efforts and would not have been made possible without prominent supporters, such as Mansfield Building Society, Nottinghamshire County Council and Ashfield District Council.

Active Notts said the awards were celebrating the amazing clubs, facilities, volunteers, people and places across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, showing how important and powerful physical activity can be in transforming communities and lives.
