Wildlife group activities

The Mansfield and Ashfield Wildlife Group’s new programme kicks off on Tuesday evening 11th November with an illustrated talk entitled: “River In Time”.

Derbyshire writer and photographer Christine Gregory will explain how human activity over time has had an impact on the little River Bradford and on its wildlife. Her photographs of the area, its plants and animals bring the habitat to life

The talk starts at 7pm at the Bridge Street Methodist Church, Bridge St, Mansfield NG18 1AL, upstairs in the Main Hall (disabled access is available). The group is asking those who attend for a donation of £3 to cover costs and refreshments.

The Wildlife Group is also offering a guided nature walk on Saturday 15th November at Portland Park. Those interested in a gentle nature walk should be ready to set off at 10am from the Portland Park Visitor Centre, Lindleys Lane, Kirkby, NG17 9AL. The walk is expected to finish at about 11:30am.

And those looking for something more vigorous can help manage some import local wildlife sites. Join us at Rainworth Heath (just off the A617) on Sunday 16th November, from 10 am to lop some broom. Also, another work day is planned from 10am on Tuesday 18th November at Spa Ponds (Forest Town, Mansfield) organised by the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust.

Anyone interested in any of these activities can contact the Mansfield and Ashfield Wildlife Group’s vice-chairman, Shlomo Dowen, by e-mail to: [email protected] or telephone (01623) 640134.
