East Midlands’ Orchestra Sinfonia Viva is bringing two days of musicfor all the family to Mansfield town centre in June as part of its 35th anniversary Cabinet Of Curiosity regional tour.
Sinfonia Viva, the region’s only professional orchestra, is well known for its classical music and has won awards and national recognition for its education and community outreach work.
The orchestra’s purple inflatable mobile venue will be in Mansfield Market Place on Friday, 16th and Saturday, 17th June.
The Friday will see two events hosted by Inspire, which organises culture, learning and libraries for Nottinghamshire County Council.
The free Be Curious, Be Inspired show for under-5s and their families is a special Rattle, Rhyme and Roll session with plenty of action songs and rhymes to get involved with.
In the evening there will be a free showcase of three of the county’s top bands — One Giant Causeway, Forgotten Rockets and Call After Midnight.
On the Saturday there will be two performances of Viva’s Flutter And Fly family concert at 10.45am and 1.30pm. Admission is £6 (family ticket £20).
The informal concerts feature composer and guitarist Jack Ross, who will be joined by the Viva chamber orchestra and animateur Eleanor Meredith to tell the story of Rowan’s paper aeroplane.
The award-winning show was created for children aged six and under and their families — and all attending take home a free CD and book of the story, songs and music.
Viva will stage the Curiously Classical concert at 7.30pm, under the baton of international conductor Jessica Cottis.
Viva’s programme will be a collection of snappy and recognisable tunes from television and film, including pieces by celebrated composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak and Bartok, and new work.
Tickets are £10/£8/£6. Go to www.vivaorch.co.uk to book and for further information.
