Theme park voted fourth best in UK

Posted onPosted on 10th Aug

Sundown Adventureland, near Retford, has been voted the fourth best theme park in the UK and 16th best theme park in the world according to TripAdvisor customers, voting on the platform last month.

The accolade was announced as Sundown celebrated a month of being reopen to its young family audience, with strict Covid-19 safety measures in place, including reduced visitor numbers, outside attractions only and temperature checks on arrival.

Since lockdown was lifted at the beginning of July Sundown Adventureland has seen its online tickets selling out weekly as families flock back to enjoy its fairytale-themed rides and attractions.

“We have been completely overwhelmed by the response to the park re-opening after three months of closure and now we can also celebrate the most amazing achievement of being voted the UK’s fourth best theme park. We are absolutely thrilled and cannot thank our customers enough for their support and kind words,” said park owner Gaynor Corr.

Sundown Adventureland started over 50 years ago by Gaynor’s mother Audrey Rhodes, who at the age of 91 is still actively involved in managing the theme park.

“Since my mum opened the park in her back garden five decades ago, it has grown every year as we have invested in new areas and new rides to keep our visitors entertained. It is a magical place and we are so pleased and proud to have the support of so many loyal customers,” she added.

“Like so many leisure facilities, we have struggled this year and really weren’t sure how we were going to survive so to have such support as we re-open is very humbling.

“The wonderful feedback from our customers has been overwhelming and we are so pleased that even despite the coronavirus protections that we have put in place around the park, the families who visit us are still having such a lovely time and enjoying their valuable time together. That’s all we could wish for,” added park manager Deborah Griffin, Audrey’s granddaughter.

As Sundown Adventureland announces more of its attractions, opening for August including The Rocky Mountain Railroad as well as the shooting ranges in Cowboy Street and Smugglers Cove, it is also planning its usual Locals Weekend and Services Weekend in September.
