Summer season in the city

Nottingham’s Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall promise summer fun in their June to August season, including rare stage appearances from the likes of Sir Bruce Forsyth and top-selling musical duo Hall and Oates.

The Theatre Royal will welcome the return of the annual Classic Thriller Season in August whilst the Royal Concert Hall will see major refurbishments taking place with the installation of brand new auditorium seating.

The Theatre Royal’s summer season starts in spectacular style with West End blockbusting comedy musicals Rock of Ages, starring Ben Richards and Noel Sullivan, and the Rod Stewart musical Tonight’s The Night written by Ben Elton.

Another feel-good musical, Happy Days, based on the hit TV series and starring Heidi Range, Ben Freeman and Cheryl Baker comes to the venue for the very first time this summer.

Dance fans will be thrilled to see the return of Strictly favourites Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace in their brand new show, Dance ‘Til Dawn, whilst Kevin Clifton (Kevin from Grimsby) headlines the dance sensation FLASH MOB! alongside Strictly co-star Karen Hauer, Olivier-nominated Tommy Franzén and Street Dance champions Flawless.

Classical ballet fans are also spoilt for choice with English Youth Ballet’s Nutcracker and Birmingham Royal Ballet’s La Fille mal gardée, both visiting Nottingham.

Two national treasures from very different walks of life visit the Royal Concert Hall this summer; Sir Bruce Forsyth entertains with a special and rare live stage performance and Sir Ranulph Fiennes talks about his lifetime of record-breaking expeditions.

For lovers of classical music, the Royal Concert Hall celebrates the grand finale of the 2013-14 Nottingham Classics season with The Hallé in June. The renowned Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir will visit the venue for a special charity concert in aid of the Wainman Trust.

More choir-themed events in the summer include the return of the popular and interactive Drivetime Concert, giving the audience a chance to join the 500-strong choir singing with The Hallé, plus TV’s favourite Choirmaster, Gareth Malone, brings his live tour to the venue.

The ever-popular Colin McIntyre Classic Thriller Season returns, offering four weeks of murder mysteries to solve including The Ghost Train, Shadow of the Ghost, Fatal Encounter and Murder Weapon.

Younger theatregoers and their families will have a chance to enjoy a mad-cap mystery musical adventure with Scooby-Doo: The Mystery of the Pyramid and a family-friendly Beanbag Music Club concert especially for under 6s.

Other highlights of the season include An Evening with Aggers and Swanny, featuring Jonathan Agnew and England spin bowler Graeme Swann, and music with Daryl Hall and John Oates who begin their long-awaited UK tour in Nottingham.
