Students perform psychological play from the 70s

It’s the turn of budding actors at West Nottinghamshire College to take to the stage at Create Theatre for their end-of-year shows.

Year 1 HND Performing Arts students will be bringing a play to the stage which was originally written in 1973 by Peter Shaffer, and is being performed on Monday 18 May.

The play, called Equus, tells the story of Alan Strang and his psychiatrist Martin Dysart. Alan meets Dysart after he inexplicably blinds six horses with a hoof pick.

Dysart then delves deep into Alan’s mind to explore the mysterious hold Equus has over him to find out what could have led to him to commit such an act.

Tutor and director Andrew Proctor said: “The students have been working hard to develop an innovative version of Equus, applying production and performance skills to create a challenging and engaging piece of theatre.

“The themes within the play are highly-sensitive and question the concept of moral responsibility.”

Tickets for the show, which starts at 7pm, cost £5or £3 for students. They can be purchased by visiting www.createtheatre.co.uk or by calling 01623 413363. The performance is appropriate for people aged 15upwards.
