Showcasing county’s talent

Music industry experts who have worked with the likes of EMI are helping young people across the county prepare for a creative music extravaganza this month.

Nottinghamshire County Council presents its County Youth Arts Showcase 2015 – with three shows in just one week across the county – celebrating the cream of talent in Nottinghamshire.

Working alongside County Youth Arts colleagues at Nottinghamshire County Council, there has been vital support from a number of experts including Simon Tew and Ronnie Sampson, who are commissioned artists at County Youth Arts, in Leeming Street, Mansfield. Simon and Ronnie are both also full-time musicians who have produced music for EMI which has then been used by MTV and other outlets.

A former director with the company Eight Three AV, Simon also manages The Old Library’s independent record label, In The End Records.

Councillor Liz Plant, Vice-Chairman of the Children and Young People’s Committee at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “We have a wonderful track record of nurturing and developing creative young talent across the county in music and the arts – with support from industry experts. Showcase 2015 gives us another opportunity to work alongside some of our key partners to help young people demonstrate their talents and promises to be a wonderful week of events.”

The three events are:
• Tuesday 17 February from 7.30pm Supergroup Showcase at the Royal Concert Hall, in Nottingham
There will be performances from the Supergroup collaboration, Unity countywide, singers, rappers and bands.

• Thursday 19 February 7pm the Able Orchestra featuring students from Fountaindale School, Brunts School and members of the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Palace Theatre, in Mansfield.
Disabled young people from Fountaindale School will be performing live with members of the BBC Concert Orchestra and students from Brunts School.

• Friday 20 February 7.30pm a Youth Dance Showcase at the Palace Theatre Mansfield.
This event will feature Street and Contemporary and Urban companies from all over Nottinghamshire.
