Popstar urges people to Party on the Market in Mansfield

Posted onPosted on 29th Jun

Brit Award-winning Liberty X singer and winner of The Voice UK 2016, Kevin Simm, is urging Mansfield folk to come down and Party on The Market.

The spectacular open air party takes place in Mansfield town centre on July 9, and will also see Little Mix tribute band Little Fix, ABBA Fever, and disco, funk & soul band Ginny Brown & the Collective, playing live to the crowds.

But Kevin Simm will be headlining the event and the Chorley-based singer said: “I’m really looking forward to it. I always look forward to doing gigs in the Midlands.

“Everyone in the area should come down to Party on The Market, particularly as it is a free event and people should support their local town.”

Kevin, whose next single is being worked on at the moment, says he will be performing a mix of his own work, and covers, with songs such as Chandelier and Rolling in the Deep on the menu.

Kevin first appeared on PopStars in 2001, was a part of Liberty X between 2001 and 2007, and then won The Voice UK in 2016.

But for Kevin, family is now his main priority. He says that the majority of his success came before married life and the birth of his children.

“Family means a lot to me,” says Kevin. “I’m making a living out of singing but it’s all about them really, now.”

And it is that family theme that is the ethos of Party On The Market. It is a free, family event that could become an annual date where people can be entertained, be proud of Mansfield and celebrate the town.

There is plenty to keep the children entertained too including face painting, small rides, fun games, and freebies from the stage

There’s also an avenue of speciality street food stalls, including pulled pork, Caribbean delicacies, Latin food, bbq shack, wood fired pizza and it all takes place between 2pm and 7.30pm.

Mansfield Business Improvement District is leading the event on behalf of a number of partners, including Mansfield District Council.

The BID’s Sarah Nelson said: “Preparations are well under way of course and the party will soon be here. We’re so looking forward to it and seeing people enjoying what Mansfield has to offer.”

Jono Edwards, who co-owns a number of venues in the town centre said: “It will be amazing. Fantastic food and great music, wonderful people all having a good time. We can make this party work and make it the envy of other towns and cities across the East Midlands.”

Councillor Dave Saunders, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Growth at Mansfield District Council, said: “There has been a lot of work behind the scenes to get this event off the ground. We’re delighted to see partnership working in action and echo the thoughts of Kevin when he urges people to come and enjoy the event.”

The main sponsors for the event are Mansfield BID, Mansfield District Council, Vision West Nottinghamshire College, The Works Hair and Beauty, and the Four Seasons Shopping Centre, with thanks to Linneys, Acorn Signs, Flare, Imprint, Mansfield Balloon Company,
