Playwright to star in own work at Palace

Posted onPosted on 23rd Sep

Playwright John Godber is starring in his own Sunny Side Up at Mansfield Palace Theatre,  from Thursday 30 September to Saturday 02 October at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

The Palace is also offering tickets for £10 to welcome audiences back to drama at the theatre.

Written, directed and starring John, co-staring his wife, Jane Thornton, and daughter, Martha Godber, Sunny Side Up is Godber’s latest play, told in his signature style, which blends authenticity and sympathy as he addresses the problems of levelling up, leaving home and never forgetting where you come from.

Sunny Side Up is the hilarious and moving account of a struggling Yorkshire coast B&B and the people who run it.

Join down to earth proprietors Barney, Cath and Tina as they share their stories of awkward clients, snooty relatives and eggs over easy, in this seaside feel good rollercoaster which digs into what ‘staycations’ are all about.

The song list to accompany the show includes: Sunny – Bobby Hebb, English Country Garden – Jimmie Rodgers, Pipeline – The Chantays, Wouldn’t It Be Nice – The Beach Boys, In The Summertime – Mungo Jerry, If I Can Dream – Elvis with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Under the Boardwalk – The Drifters, Shangri-La – SPEECHLESS, Beautiful Rain – Moonlight Echoes, Travelling Man – Ricky Nelson, Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles, Summer Holiday – Cliff Richard and The Shadows, Sunny Afternoon – The Kinks, California Dreamin’ – The Mamas & The Papas, Ticket to Ride – The Beatles, Beyond the Sea (La Mer)  – Django Reinhardt & The Quintet of the Hot Club of France, Why Do Fools Fall in Love – Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers, Twistin’ the Night Away – Sam Cooke, Beyond the Sea – Bobby Darin
