Outdoor events programme returns

Posted onPosted on 28th Mar

A full events programme is returning to Mansfield District Council’s offering — and as well as summer and Christmas festivals, there will be a flower show, street entertainment and the chance to watch brass bands play in town parks.

The first big event of the year is a Cleaner, Greener Festival in the Market Place on Sunday, 15th May. There will be a specialist vegan market with eco-friendly, holistic and spiritual demonstrations, entertainment, activities and tips.
Mansfield Summer Festival will be bigger than before because it will take place over two days for the first time, Thursday 4th and Friday 5th August, at Titchfield Park.

There will be live comedy acts and entertainment inside a marquee on the Thursday evening, followed by an all-day family festival with movies and entertainment on the Friday.

The fun continues on Wednesday, 17th August as Carr Lane Park, Warsop, again hosts the festival with entertainment, stalls, live music, arena shows and more.

On Saturday, 3rd September, The Full Shebang Festival — a free, one-day family festival presented by First Art — returns to Mansfield.

The biggest event of the year will be the Christmas Lights Switch On, which is expected to attract thousands of people to Mansfield town centre on Sunday, 27th November. Plans are under way for a stage show.

The Mayor of Mansfield, Andy Abrahams, said: “After everything we’ve missed over the past couple of years with family and friends, we are looking forward to being able to get together again.

“A lot of hard work by council and partners goes into planning a wide range of events suitable for all the family. This year we’re putting the local community, health and wellbeing, and the environment at the heart of our events programme. With the exception of theatre events, they are all free.”

Jay Rowlinson, chief executive of Mansfield BID, said: “There is a vast array of events this year to suit all people and all age groups. These will increase footfall into the town and assist our hospitality, shops, and other businesses.”
