Masque bringing fairytale Cinderella to life on the Palace stage

Posted onPosted on 18th Aug

Glass slippers will be back in fashion in November as Mansfield amateur dramatics society Masque Productions presents Rodgers & Hammerstein’s adaptation of the fairytale Cinderella.

The musical features some of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most-beloved songs, including In My Own Little Corner, Impossible/It’s Possible, and Ten Minutes Ago.

Principal cast members will include: Cinderella – Macey Shaw, Prince Christopher – Jake Shirley, Fairy Godmother – Alison Carter, Stepmother – Kelly Marsh, Grace (Cinderella’s stepsister) – Brooke Spedding, Joy (Cinderella’s stepsister) – Holly Stevenson, Lionel (the prince’s royal steward) – James Hallam, Queen Constantina – Justine Wells, and King Maximillian – Simon Brickell.

Directed and produced by Andrew Wolden, the production team also includes choreographer Lynn Roberts and musical director Roger Holland.

Masque has been producing and performing shows for more than 40 years, and has a strong history of putting on musicals.

In recent years it widened its offering to include performing plays and themed variety performances.

Andrew, also chairman/director, said: “In an average year we perform one week-long musical in November and either one week-long play in February/March or a one-night variety performance in September.

“Our goal is simple — we aim to give our audiences the best quality shows, performed by local people at their local theatre.

“We like to think of ourselves as a forward-thinking society. We hope the list of our previous shows on our website demonstrates our happiness to perform the old traditional favourites, but equally that we do not shy away from arranging our own themed variety performances or performing the newer shows available for performance by amateur societies.”

“Beyond performing shows, we do our utmost to promote a sense of community and togetherness. Numerous social events take place throughout the year and many members socialise regularly outside of rehearsals.

“We also have a strong history of supporting charities, such as Guide Dogs and the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Society through raffles at performances and carol singing in December.

Cinderella will be at the Palace Theatre, Mansfield, from 7th to 11th November, at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm matinee on the Saturday.
