The life and works of French illusionist and filmmaker is being retold through a non-verbal puppetry performance at Mansfield’s Create Theatre.
Shooting The Moon, by Strangeface Theatre in association with Village Ventures Rural Touring scheme, explores the life of Georges Méiliès who was best known for leading many technical developments in the earliest days of cinema.
Because of his ability to seemingly manipulate and transform reality through cinematography Méliès is sometimes referred to as the first “Cinemagician.
Shooting The Moon will be performed on Thursday, 13th March at 7.30pm and will depict through full-mask puppetry and puppet performance how Méliès combined his passions for magic and the moving image to create the first-ever special effects to be seen on film.
Taking inspiration from early cinema itself, this enchanting non-verbal performance, which is suitable for children aged seven and over, will be accompanied by a live musical score and original projections of Méliès’ work.
