A Mansfield woman is starting a new monthly pre-loved and craft market in Mansfield.
The first Thrifty Thursday will run from 10.30am to 1.30pm at The Towers, Mansfield, on Thursday, 2nd April. Admission is 50p, OAPs and children free.
Dee Kyte said she hoped the market would encourage people to recycle, rather then send unwanted items to landfill, and buy locally-made products.
“Each week 11 million items of clothing go to landfill, but if everyone bought just one used item a year it would save 449million pounds of waste,” she said.
“We all need to start trying to do our bit to help the environment and stop global warming. One way to do this is to recycle our clothes and other goods, instead of sending them to landfill.
“It is usually cheaper to buy pre-loved goods, rather than new, so this is also a way to help you save money.
“Also, to reduce our carbon footprint we should buy locally-made products, and help local businesses into the bargain.
“One way to do this is to have a place for local people to show and sell their handmade products on a regular basis.
“Many boot sales, craft fairs, and jumble sales are at a weekend, but there are many people out there who want something to do in the week, when the children are at school, if you’ve retired, or if you work at weekends.
“Therefore, I’ve come up with the idea of having a monthly, indoor, pre-loved and craft market on the first Thursday of every month
“There is free parking and The Towers is easily accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Refreshments are also available.”
Dee hopes there will be around 40 stalls, selling a variety of gently-worn and hand-made goods.
She added: “Hopefully there should be something for everyone.”
