Get involved in Mansfield’s virtual VE Day 75th anniversary party

Posted onPosted on 21st Apr

This VE Day, 8th May, marks 75 years since the guns fell silent on the Second World War in Europe – and Mansfield area people are being urged to take part in a virtual party.

To say thank you to those who fought for us and to lift the spirits of communities whilst in coronavirus lockdown, Mansfield District Council is to host the special event.

On Friday, 8th May, people can tune into its Facebook page as the council hosts a range of activities that the whole family can take part in.

It will feature everything from an Army-style workout to 1940s dance and hairstyle tutorials.

The commemorations will end with a live stream singalong of classic 1940s songs followed by the Vera Lynn hit, “We’ll Meet Again”, with Jessica Poole.

In the days leading up to the virtual event, Mansfield District will provide further details about how people can get involved and be prepared for the big day – such as making bunting, flags, rosettes, recipes and more.

A spokesman for the council said: “We hope you will join us to say thanks to our armed forces for the sacrifices they made during WW2.

“Check the website for the first lot of resources available. More information will be added on a regular basis so be sure to check back.”
