Free lunchtime concert

For the last few years, The Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall’s Live at Lunch Christmas Special has been one of the must-see events in its programme.

In the last couple of years, however, the increasing demand for seats on the Theatre Royal’s Dress Circle Foyer at this popular festive concert – given by Nottingham Trent University’s Chamber Choir – has exceeded the space available.

In order to accommodate everyone who comes along to this year’s free lunchtime event on Monday 8 December, the Christmas concert will now be staged in the Royal Concert Hall’s 2,200 seat auditorium. The 30-strong choir will certainly enjoy singing in the Concert Hall’s acclaimed acoustic and the audience will get a chance to test out its own vocals in the carol sing-alongs that have become an essential part of the performance.

Apart from the familiar carols, the choir will be performing a festive mix of choral classics and solo items, showcasing the rich vein of youthful talent that runs through its ranks.

Neil Bennison, Music Programme Manager for the Royal Concert Hall said: “Nottingham Trent University’s Chamber Choir has been with us from the start of Live at Lunch five years ago and it’s always a real pleasure to have them back with us.

“Not only do they give wonderful performances but the audience really responds to their enthusiasm. It also helps that the choir’s conductor, NTU Director of Music, Matthew Hopkins, is the perfect host – his informal and welcoming presentation plays a big part in making our Christmas Live at Lunch such a success.”

With the concert being free, anyone can enjoy this hour of Christmas favourites, and it makes the perfect lunchtime destination for Nottingham city workers and Christmas shoppers looking for a relaxing – and tuneful – way to take the weight off their feet.

The concert begins at .pm on Monday, 8 December Admission is FREE and no booking is required. Doors open at 12.15pm. The bar will be open and drinks may be taken into the auditorium.
