Exhibition high note for Mansfield choir

An exhibition on the history of Mansfield and District Male Voice Choir (MDMVC), which dates to 1926, will start on 9th June at Mansfield Museum and run until 5th July.

Mansfield mayor Tony Egginton will officially open the exhibition at an event on 21st June at 11am that will include a performance by the choir, refreshments and a quiz.

A MDMVC film and CD is part of the exhibition, which charts the choir’s beginnings in 1926 and its formation in 1944 when the Rainworth Male Voice Choir, Stanton Hill Male Voice Choir and Mansfield Orpheus amalgamated.

The choir, whose membership dropped at the start of the century, now boasts more than 50 members and has played at 10 Downing Street among many highlights.

Two years ago it raised £2,200 for charity during an eight-day visit to Wales singing with four choirs.
