An exhibition on the 70-year history of Mansfield and District Male Voice Choir, whose origin dates to 1926, is continuing at Mansfield Museum until 4th July.

Mansfield mayor Tony Egginton officially opened the exhibition with new choir president David Marriott at an event that included a performance by the choir. Former choristers, the public and museum staff attended.

A film and CD is part of the exhibition, which charts the choir’s beginnings in 1926 and its formation in 1944, when Rainworth Male Voice Choir, Stanton Hill Male Voice Choir and Mansfield Orpheus amalgamated.

The exhibition was put together by a small team from the choir led by chairman Geoff Mansfield and secretary Eileen Lawrence.
Mayor Eggington said the choir was a major ambassador for the town.

The choir, directed by Meryl Chambers, sang Llanfair, My Lord What a Morning, The Rose, and Yesterday. A final piece, Mansions of the Lord, commemorating those who died in warfare, was directed by Ian Grice. Margaret Ball accompanied all the pieces on the piano.

The choir aims to join the Mansfield Sister Cities Association in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA in September 2016.
