Easter events in libraries across Nottinghamshire

If you are looking for activities and events this coming Easter period, there could well be something of interest at Nottinghamshire County Council libraries.

There are a range of events and activities including Easter craft events and live music sessions taking place at lbraries across the area.

Highlights include Easter craft activities at libraries including Edwinstowe and Ollerton, a film at Mansfield Library, live music events at Mansfield, and some events to celebrate World Book Night later in the month.

Sutton-in-Ashfield: Author Visit – Freda Barnes
5 April, 10am – 12pm Free event.

Mansfield Woodhouse: Georgian Festival
7 – 11 April, free event, festival activities for families
Tuesday 10am: an organised Walk around Georgian Mansfield Woodhouse, designed by the Young Woodhouse Society and led by them together with Ralph Lloyd-Jones, whose historic walk tours have regularly been oversubscribed. Booking strongly advised!
Tuesday 1-4pm: Roman Day. Activities include handling Roman artefacts and restoring the mosaic replica made by the community in 2010. All in a Roman’s day’s work, says Emily Gillott. Emily, the Nottinghamshire County Council Community Archaeologist who facilitated the mosaic creation community project in 2001, returns to Mansfield Woodhouse to lead the Roman Day workshop.
Friday 10.30am – 3.30pm: Hands-on Archaeology – dig up the dig site in the courtyard and uncover stories hidden in the ground. Includes reconstruction of pottery from fragments. Suitable for children aged 7+ Workshop facilitated by Community Archaeologists.
Evening talks and other highlights
All week we are showing an Exhibition about Major Rooke, curated by the Sherwood Archaeological Society.
Monday, 7pm evening talk: Major Hayman Rooke – an Extra-Ordinary Eighteenth Century Gentleman by Jonathan Wallis (Derby Museums)
Thursday, 7pm evening talk: In Grandmother Gell’s Kitchen. Author Carol Barstow talks about her research and experimenting with 18th century cooking & baking recipes.
Friday am, Georgian coffee morning – the usual coffee morning dedicated to remembering how coffee houses in Georgian times spread the ideas of Enlightenment and social change. Wearing a wig is optional but commended.
All activities are free but ticketed. All are welcome, but places are limited and booking is advised. Tickets are available from the Help Desk at Mansfield Woodhouse Library. Tel. 01623 621781

Mansfield: Inspired by India
14 April – 11 May, Free event. An exhibition featuring some of the Indian inspired printed textiles created by families in our libraries. Mansfield: Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (12)
23 April, 2.30pm Cost £3. The film adaptation of John Boyne’s novel – one of this year’s World Book Night titles, this moving story is told through the eyes of the eight-year-old son of a Nazi commandant who forms a friendship with a Jewish boy held captive in a concentration camp. Southwell: Andrew Wood Trio
30 April, Cost: £10 /£8. This line-up of the Nottingham-based Andrew Wood Trio features Andrew on drums, Colin Dudman on piano and Martyn Spencer on bass. The trio play an engaging variety of contemporary jazz, both original tunes and arranged classics from such greats as Bill Evans, Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane. Andrew’s groups have a strong pedigree and have performed extensively throughout the UK since 2010.
