Century of Song event to help Save The Children

Members of the Save the Children West Bridgford branch have organised a Century of Song event to raise funds for the charity.

The event will take place on 9th November at St Giles Church, West Bridgford.

The charity said: “All money raised at Century of Song will help Save the Children to empower children to fulfil their incredible potential – not just here in the UK, but in more than 100 countries across the globe.”

Branch member Jane Piggott describes why she decided to volunteer for Save the Children and continues to raise funds: “I first got involved with Save the Children about 15 years ago and have been a branch volunteer since then.

“When the West Bridgford shop opened in 2013, I also began volunteering there on one day each week. I am passionate about all children being given the best possible start in life, whether in the UK or overseas and feel that we all have a responsibility as adults to protect children and help them to thrive; they are, after all, the future!

“2019 is Save the Children’s Centenary year and the idea of a musical celebration of our 100th birthday really appealed to me as I love music, singing and dancing. What we are planning to do at our Century of Song event is to sing a well-known popular song from each decade of the past 100 years and also tell the story of Save the Children’s growth and development from its founding in 1919.

“I am delighted to say that over 100 singers have signed up to perform and we would love to have a similar number (or more!) in the audience. There will be plenty of audience participation (all the lyrics will be projected on screens) and we can hopefully raise the roof of St Giles with our singing!”

Charlotte Harvey, community fundraising manager, said: “We’re really grateful for all of the Save the Children volunteers. They create amazing events to ensure Save the Children continues to empower children to reach their incredible potential.

“I hope everybody, singers and guests enjoy the event and also know that they will be having a massive impact on many children’s futures. Save the Children’s work is only possible thanks to generous volunteers like the West Bridgford branch and their amazing commitment to make the world a better place for children. Together with the West Bridgford branch’s support, we’re determined to help every child become who they want to be.”
