Back in time at museum

Mansfield Museum is stepping back in time to the 1950s with two events.

A touring exhibition called 1950s Fashion: A Decade of Glamour Exhibition will run at the museum from 28th February until 23rd April.

The exhibition, produced by Epping Forest District Museum, is divided into two themes. It looks at how the fashions of the stars were first created and then adapted to be worn by the everyday family.

The exhibition examines the dazzling dresses of the Paris couture houses and the ready-to-wear styles of Marks and Spencer.

The second event is by History Wardrobe, which is presenting Fabulous Fifties on Wednesday, 22nd from 2pm–4.30pm. Admission is £2 and booking is essential.

Organisers said: “Do you remember the Liberty bodice?

“The reality of life for housewives in the 50s was far from glamorous, but in this lively presentation we transform a domestic drudge into a domestic goddess.”
