A summer project giving young people the chance to try out KMX karts and other adventure activities, including slacklining, is being extended from Mansfield to include Sutton.

Last summer more than 100 young people took part in sessions over the holiday period in Mansfield.

The sessions, starting this week for 12 weeks, will provide young people aged eight to 18 with adrenaline-fuelled activities at The Oval, Sutton, on Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm, and at Oak Tree Leisure Centre and Barringer Road, Mansfield, on Fridays from 6pm to 8pm.

Youth worker Lisa Jeffrey, based at the Targeted Support and Youth Justice team at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “We had positive feedback about this scheme from last year. The communities are working closely with a range of agencies to provide relevant and popular activities for young people.”

The Mansfield sessions have been funded by Mansfield Partnership Against Crime, the local community safety partnership that has provided £8,258 for the scheme.

The council has worked alongside Ashfield Community Safety Partnership, which provided £8,258 to make sessions possible in Sutton and Hucknall.

Steven Osborn, project co-ordinator for Warsop-based Mansfield Wheels Activity Centre,will deliver KMX kart and BMX bike sessions. Temporary tracks are laid down for races at each location.

Kirkby-based Tri-Slacklining is providing slacklining.
