Unstoppable teens at Samworth

Students at Samworth Church Academy welcomed Kevin Mincher, of ‘Unstoppable Teen’ fame, whose specialty is to focus and enable students to become more effective at studies and achieving their future goals.

Mr Mincher said his ‘revision conference’ with students at the academy was about creating a routine and set of goals for students to achieve the next step in their plans.

He said: “I want the students to make independent decisions tailored to their own goals, this makes the student realise that the responsibility is theirs, and because of that, the success when they get it right will be theirs.

“I am a big believer in looking at what other people have done to make good choices and become successful, and basing a model on that.”

He said these tried and tested strategies will aid students to improve their chances of reaching their goals, whether that is improving a revision timetable, memory improvement, note taking or interview techniques.

“At one time I found public speaking very difficult, and to overcome it took a dedication to practice and a will to overcome that fear. I want students to leave here today thinking they know what they can do to improve my chances, and importantly, how to make that happen.”

Molly Paterson, a year 12 student who hopes to study biochemistry at Manchester Metropolitan University said that she enjoyed the opportunity to take part.

She said: “I found it really motivating and learned a lot of new things to take away with me for now, and at university.”

Kevin Minchers’ talks are reputed to be among the highest-attended youth motivation seminars in the country and his book ‘No Limits’ has been read by more than 250,000 people.

Covered during the day at Samworth Church Academy were inspirational talks about confidence, strategy and planning, revision timetables and goal setting.
