The Big Lunch – the UK’s biggest annual get-together for neighbours – will be taking place on Sunday, 1st June.
The aim is to get as many people as possible to have lunch with their neighbours every year on the first Sunday in June in a simple act of community spirit, friendship and fun.
Last year, around 3.65 million people across the UK took part in events held in streets, gardens, schools and community spaces.
A Big Lunch can be anything from a few neighbours getting together to a full blown street party. There are lots of ideas, tips, posters and leaflets on the Big Lunch website www.thebiglunch.com to get you on your way, as well as some great recipes and food ideas.
Once you have registered for The Big Lunch, you can contact Mansfield District Council’s community engagement service on 01623 463 372 or email [email protected] if you need advice on how to promote your event.
Coun Andrew Tristram, portfolio holder for corporateiIssues, said: “This is a great opportunity for neighbours to get to know one another and promote community spirit. You don’t have to organise a big event and you can keep things simple by asking people to bring a picnic, or a dish to share. The Big Lunch is an excellent way of helping neighbourhoods to become happier, closer and safer communities.”
