Tempting the tastebuds

Students at West Nottinghamshire College have been tempting their taste buds while supporting a good cause.

During Fairtrade Fortnight (23 February – 9 March) the Students’ Union organised a range of Fairtrade activities which offered students the chance to try a range of Fairtrade food in place of their regular drinks and snacks.

Fairtrade tea, coffee, hot chocolate, bananas and banana cake and chocolate were available at each of the college campuses to encourage students to try this range of produce.

Sport student Abbie Turner said: “I prefer to drink Fairtrade tea. You can taste a difference and it makes good sense to support this important initiative.”

Students’ Union president Will Jordan said: “The food and drink sampling has gone down really well across all our campuses. Lots of students have tried something different and have been enjoying the selection of food.

“It’s important to promote Fairtrade because it’s an ethical way of supporting developing countries and ensure we’re helping to pay a fair price and offer better working conditions to those people who produce the goods.”
