Mansfield District Council is among the organisations funding a project to restore the pond at Quarry Lane Local Nature Reserve, Mansfield.
Volunteers from Maun Conservation Group Work have started work on the Upper Maun Project, cutting back and removing vegetation around the pond so that it can be excavated, the depth increased, and dipping platforms extended. A path to the pond will also be created.
The scheme will attract a greater variety of wildlife and improve conditions for water voles.
Funding for the £15,438 project is coming from the council, SDC trailers and donations from the local community, as well as from The Veolia Environmental Trust and the Environment Agency.
