Nottinghamshire County Council is supporting the national LIGHTS OUT event in August as part of the commemorations of The Great War.
Lights Out is being organised nationally by 14-18 NOW, inviting individuals, households and companies to turn off their lights from 10pm to 11pm on 4th August, leaving on a single light or candle for a shared moment of reflection.
The event is to signify the time exactly 100 years ago when Britain declared war on Germany on 4th August, 1914.
A single light will remain lit at County Hall in Loughborough Road, during the national event next month.
Nottinghamshire County Council leader Coun Alan Rhodes said: “We are proud to support the national Lights Out event on August 4 and encourage local people to participate. It gives us another opportunity to reflect on the immense sacrifices that so many people made for our country during the Great War.”
Nottinghamshire County Council is also a key partner of Trent to Trenches, a countywide programme of events and activities developed by hundreds of organisations and volunteers with the county council in partnership with Nottingham City Council and Experience Nottinghamshire to commemorate 100 years since the start of The Great War.
