Student wins top award

A Warsop student has been named the best at his college.

Harley Henson (18), an apprentice at B&B Tractors, Warsop, scooped the prize at an awards ceremony at Moreton Morrell College, part of the Warwickshire College Group.

The ceremony was held to mark the 15-year anniversary of AGCO’s apprenticeship scheme in partnership with the colleges and to celebrate the next generation of AGCO technicians.

Since 1999, 180 apprentices from AGCO dealers across the country have been enrolled on the scheme.

Harley, who was named best overall student, said, “I was not expecting to win the award so it was a great surprise.
As I’ve now finished my apprenticeship, I’m working as a technician with B&B Tractors, which is great. It looks like I might have inspired my younger brother to follow the same career path.”

Nigel Briggs, service manager at B&B Tractors, said: “This is fantastic for Harley. We expect him to get good grades, but to win best overall student is great.

“He was our first apprentice to go through the programme. He’s proved such a success we’ve now got five in total – apprentices are really important for our business.”

Mark Bonham, director of construction and motor vehicle at Warwickshire College Group, said: “Apprenticeships are a great way to start your career and earn while you learn, gaining experience, expertise and a valuable qualification at the same time.”

“The modern AGCO workshop at Moreton Morrell College has the very latest diagnostic and electronic equipment, the highest calibre of teaching staff and state of the art facilities to ensure the success of each apprentice and to train the most efficient and professional technicians in the industry.”
