Students show they care

A children’s hospice has received a bumper cheque from students – and it was three times larger than expected!

Catering and hospitality students at West Nottinghamshire College presented a cheque for £3,000 to Emma Vizor, a fundraiser for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, after a year’s worth of fundraising for the Sheffield organisation.

The catering and hospitality team has supported the hospice for the last three years and was aiming to raise £2,000 this academic year through activities such as hosting a three-course charity dinner at its Derby Road campus last week, selling Bluebell Wood merchandise and holding prize raffles.

Last week Emma joined staff organisers Charlotte Addison and Lynne Booth, and students from the catering and hospitality programmes at a luncheon and was delighted to discover that the £1,000 which was raised last year had tripled to £3,000 this year.

She said: “The catering and hospitality staff and students at West Notts College are an absolute inspiration. Having started the year with a fundraising target of £1,000 the team have done an amazing job and have tripled their target, raising an astounding £3,000.

“This will make a massive difference to the children and families we care for and will give every child a trip out in our specially adapted minibus.”

Front of house tutor Lynne Booth said: “Our students have worked very hard on fundraising all year and we’re delighted that our donation will help provide sick children and their families with the support they deserve when going through a terminal illness.”
