Students make park clean and green

Over 30 bags of litter were gathered on Wednesday by students at Vision West Nottinghamshire College as part of an international Mansfield Clean Up Day.

The group of students (pictured) donned gloves and boots and took their bin bags and litter pickers to Fisher Lane Park, off Rock Hill, to give the area a spring clean.

The students were joined by pupils from Asquith Primary School in the afternoon in the project organised by Mansfield District Council.

The activity aims to encourage Mansfields from across the globe to unite and help to make Mansfield the cleanest place in the world. The first ever International Mansfield Clean Up day took place last year and its success in clearing 200 bags of rubbish over one day earned the Keep Britain Tidy community award.

The college’s Students’ Union president, Marie Oakton, said: “Today’s activity was not only productive but it was enjoyable as our group got to grips with clearing the rubbish.

“Our students said it felt good to make the park space look clear and tidy and it felt a very worthwhile thing to do. As a college we take litter very seriously and we’ll be organising more litter picks in the community and around our college campuses.”
